The FXD WP-12 is a work pant built around a design decision that most work pants still haven't made: the elastic waist. Where traditional work pants rely on a button, clasp, and zip fly closure that can restrict movement and create pressure at the waistline during bending, squatting, and kneeling, the WP-12 uses a full elastic waist that moves with the body through the full range of what trades work demands. For workers who spend their days in dynamic positions - concrete, roofing, framing, landscaping, or any trade that puts the body into repeated awkward angles - the difference between a waist that pulls back and a waist that follows is something that shows up before noon and keeps showing up through the end of the shift.

The fabric is a 240 GSM / 7.1 oz stretch ripstop in a 57% cotton, 40% polyester, 3% spandex blend. Ripstop weaving builds a reinforcing grid into the base fabric that prevents small tears from propagating - if the fabric is snagged or cut at a point, the ripstop grid structure stops the damage from spreading into a larger tear. The 2-way stretch allows movement in the horizontal plane, accommodating the hip and thigh movement of kneeling, climbing, and bending without the fabric pulling tight against the leg. A UPF rating of 50+ provides excellent UV protection for workers in outdoor environments where sun exposure across a full workday is a daily reality.

In the areas of the pant that take the most punishment, FXD's DURA500™ reinforcing adds a layer of 500 denier polyurethane-coated nylon oxford material over the base ripstop. This is abrasion-resistant nylon at the grade used in premium workwear reinforcement, providing long-lasting tear and abrasion resistance in the high-wear zones where standard fabric would wear through first. One-piece leg gussets at the crotch allow unrestricted range of motion without seam stress, knee darts add shape and comfort at the bent-knee position most common during active trades work, and stress point bar-tacks reinforce the locations where fabric stress concentrates during load and movement. Triple needle stitching on the side seams adds structural integrity to every seam line that has to hold up through years of regular use.

Q&A

Q: Why does the WP-12 use an elastic waist instead of a traditional fly closure?
FXD designed the WP-12 around the elastic waist specifically for workers who spend their day in repeated dynamic positions - bending, kneeling, squatting, and climbing. A traditional button and zip waist creates a fixed circumference that can pull tight against the waistline during these movements and restrict range of motion. The elastic waist follows the body's movement rather than resisting it, which means there is less physical drag during physical work and less pressure on the waistline during extended bent positions.

Q: What is DURA500™ and where is it applied on this pant?
DURA500™ is FXD's proprietary reinforcing system made from 500 denier, polyurethane coated nylon oxford material. It is applied in the high wear zones of the pant - the areas that take the most abrasion and physical contact during active trades work. The 500 denier nylon at this grade is the same abrasion-resistance material standard used in premium backpacks, gear bags, and military-grade equipment. Applied as a targeted overlay rather than throughout the entire pant, it adds durability specifically where the base ripstop fabric is most likely to wear first.

Q: What does ripstop fabric mean for a work pant?
Ripstop fabric has a reinforcing grid woven into the base material at regular intervals - visible as a subtle crosshatch or grid pattern in the fabric surface. This grid structure is designed to stop small tears or punctures from spreading into larger damage. If the fabric is snagged or cut at a point, the ripstop grid limits how far that damage travels through the fabric. For work pants that get regular contact with sharp materials, rough surfaces, and abrasive environments, ripstop significantly extends the life of the pant compared to standard woven fabrics.

Q: What does the 50+ UPF rating mean for outdoor workers?
UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) measures how much UV radiation is blocked by the fabric. A rating of 50+ indicates the fabric allows less than 2% of UV radiation to pass through, which the Skin Cancer Foundation and similar organizations classify as excellent protection. For workers who spend 8+ hours per day outdoors, cumulative UV exposure through clothing is a meaningful health consideration. The WP-12's 50+ UPF fabric provides the highest level of UV protection available in the garment UPF rating standard.
